Invitation Conference “Non-indigenous species in the North-East Atlantic”

The Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO), the Flanders Marine Institute (Vliz), the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (museum) and Ghent University are pleased to inform you about the conference: “Non-indigenous species in the North-East Atlantic”.
The conference will be held on 20-22 November 2013 at the hotel Royal Astrid in Ostend, Belgium.

Non-indigenous species are an important aspect within new coming regulations amongst them MSFD-Marine Strategy Framework Directive. Many questions like “why do these species survive here as well? "," how do they get here? "," what is their impact and how do we deal with it?" will be highlighted.
Scientists and policymakers will be brought together to share knowledge and discuss on this.

Therefore, we invite you to submit an abstract on one of the following topics: success of non-native species and their vectors, structural and functional biodiversity, threats and risks, positive aspects of their success and control and "early warning". Based on these inputs 21 abstracts will be selected by a scientific committee for a plenary oral presentation of 20 minutes. For the other a poster session will be foreseen. A publication with all the abstracts will be disseminated on the conference. All talks and the poster session will be held in English. Abstracts can be send until the 1st of August 2013 to
