Innovating in the bioeconomy is not something you do alone

InnovatingHOW DO YOU APPROACH AN INNOVATION PROCESS IN THE BIOECONOMY CONTEXT?

The road to a high-performance bioeconomy is through innovation. However, developing and marketing new concepts is a difficult and risky undertaking. How to tackle such innovation processes and which aspects are important to increase the chance of success has rarely been investigated in this context.

LITERATURE RESEARCH AND INTERVIEWS WITH COMPANIES

The scientific literature on innovation management was extensively analysed. The relevant elements were then translated into suggestions and recommendations, and summarised in a schematic figure. In addition, discussions were held with innovation managers from different companies to pool their experiences.

BIO-ID MODEL WITH SUGGESTIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

The Bio-economy Innovation Development (Bio-ID) model brings together the various relevant insights from literature. In order to increase the chance of success, it is best to collaborate with relevant stakeholders through processes with iterative learning circles. In order to increase the success of such an approach, it is also important to pay attention to the development of a company culture and management style, among other things.

The report on the discussions with the innovation managers is currently being worked out. The analysis of the data, however, shows that the innovation approach within these leading companies questioned is in line with the recommendations within the Bio-ID model.
